Facilities Overview

Colorado State University’s Foothills Campus is undergoing several phases of expansion, including a complex of connected buildings housing the university’s Bioenvironmental Research Building and the Regional Biocontainment Laboratory. The laboratory was completed the fall of 2007.

The campus includes

  • The initial $7.7 million Bioenvironmental Research Building was completed in 2000. Most of these initial funds were university funds, and an additional $1 million was given by the National Institutes of Health.
  • This building is undergoing an $8 million expansion, funded with $4 from the National Center for Research Resources, a division of the National Institutes of Health, and an additional $4 million from the university. This expansion is slated to be completed the fall of 2008.
  • The construction of a media preparation area in the Bioenvironmental Research Building was completed in 2006. It was funded with $500,000 of the university’s research funds.
  • The Bioenvironmental Research Building Discovery Suite, which connects the BRB and the Regional Biocontainment Laboratory, is being built with $3 million from the Health Resources and Services Administration, a branch of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
  • The construction of the $30 million Regional Biocontainment Laboratory is funded with $26 million from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease. The remainder of the construction funds are from the university. It was completed in October of 2007.
  • The Regional Biocontainment Laboratory was granted select agent status from the Centers for Disease Control in April of 2008.

Foothills Research Campus Master Plan

This construction is one project to further advance the university’s master plan for expanding the foothills campus.
